Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network gets grant

The Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network has received a $20,000 grant from The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts to replace the roof on its homeless shelter in Leominster, which provides food, clothing, family support, case management and educational training to homeless families with children in Worcester County.

The grant was one of 11 Activation Fund grants recently awarded by the foundation totaling almost $700,000.

“The goal of the Activation Fund is to enable an organization to move to a higher level of capacity and to then continue to function at that higher level after the grant ends,” noted Dr. Jan Yost, president and CEO of the foundation. “This grant will ensure that the Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network is able to continue providing its services in a safe environment, and the foundation is pleased to support this effort.”

The foundation was established in 1999 with the proceeds from the sale of Central Massachusetts Health Care, Inc., a physician-initiated, not-for-profit HMO. The foundation currently has assets of approximately $72 million, and has awarded grants totaling more than $37 million since it began its grantmaking in 2000.
