In a year marked by growth, The Health Foundation reached its first major grantmaking milestone on December 26, 2000, when the directors announced six major grants, totaling $460,662. The health issues addressed in these grants include dental and oral health, support for family caregivers for the elderly, the protection of children from sexual and physical abuse, and access to and education about prescription drugs. In addition, the Foundation awarded another $67,000 in smaller grants and designated the recipients of $50,000 in awards, bringing the total distributed to $577,662.
