ACEs refer to toxic stress or family dysfunction in childhood which can impact health and learning as a child and manifest as chronic disease as an adult. It is important for the community to recognize that ACEs occur in all income, racial and ethnic groups.

ACEs can include:

  • Abuse (Emotional, Physical, or Sexual)
  • Household Challenges (Violence, Substance Abuse, Mental Illness, Criminal Family Member, or Separation/Divorce)
  • Neglect (Emotional or Physical)
